Information about the EU Guideline 2002/95/EG (RoHS) - RoHS conformable IPC@CHIP® controller starting from November 2005
Accordingly to the EU Guideline 2002/95/EG (RoHS) starting from June 1st 2006, all electrical and electronic devices which exceed certain critical values concerning hazardous substances cannot be brought into circulation. After that date the concerned units may be sold only as spare parts. It depends on the particular area of application whether your products are affected by the Guideline or not.
The change-over of electronic devices to RoHS conformity requires among other things the manufacturing change-over to a lead-free soldering process, whereby usually higher soldering temperatures are necessary. As a result of that, all used components have to be suitable for the lead-free soldering process or respectively released for it by the manufacturer.
In order to provide a simple change-over for our customers whose products are affected by the RoHS Guideline, we offer additional RoHS conformable ("lead-free") versions, starting from November 2005. For customers whose products are not affected by the Guideline and who do not plan a change-over up to July 1st, 2006, we offer as usual the Not-RoHS conformal variants.
Note:
Concerning our RoHS conformable components, we will make efforts to avoid any changes of the technical specification (except for the modified processing parameter). Nevertheless in some cases already used units have to be replaced by RoHS conformable versions (e.g. Flash memory), so that in particular cases technical changes might arise. We will document these changes in the data sheets of the new RoHS conformable components.
